ROANE CO COMMISSION TO GIVE PUBLIC “PLENTY OF NOTICE” ON SCHOOL BUILDING PLAN DISCUSSION

Coming off the Roane County School Board vote to close all five high schools to make way for two proposed super high schools, the Roane County Commission chairman has responded.

The school board did not put in their agenda that went out to the media discussing the school building plan. Instead Board member Danny Wright made a motion at the start of the meeting last week to amend the agenda to discuss a building plan. School board members that voted in favor of the two new super high schools included Langley, Miller, King, Jago, Johnson, Brackett and Wright. Those opposed were Taylor, Jackson and Cox. The Roane County Commission will discuss the matter at a future meeting.

Roane County Commissioner Randy Ellis issued a statement saying the commission will give the public plenty of notice before their meeting to discuss the school board decision. Ellis said there will be joint meetings with the school board and public hearings that will be advertised long before the meetings happen. The school board must go through a long process to make their plan happen including obtaining funding for the project from the county commission.
