ROANE CO. OFFICIALS TO MEET TO DISCUSS JAIL OVERCROWDING ALTERNATIVES
As the Roane County Commission looks to borrow money to expand the county jail, a committee setup to discuss jail overcrowding alternatives is scheduled to meet later this month. The current jail is 10 years old and was built to hold 175 inmates. As of late yesterday, the jail housed 337. Of that number, 256 are male and 78 are female inmates. The meeting will be held September 30 at 5:30 p.m. in the county commission room on the second floor of the courthouse in Kingston.
