The trial of a Roane County man accused of child rape and aggravated sexual battery has been postponed for a fourth time after he failed to appear in court on Wednesday.

Victor Dale Moore was scheduled for a court hearing on July 29, 2026. Following his absence, Roane County Circuit Court Judge Jeffrey Wicks officially rescheduled the trial to August 25, 2026.

The delay marks the latest setback in a case that appeared to be moving forward after a jury was successfully seated on July 28. Public records show the proceedings have faced multiple scheduling changes, alongside a shift in legal representation after Moore opted to replace his former attorney, Matt Courteau, to represent himself.

Moore was originally arrested on October 29, 2024, and subsequently released after posting a $100,000 bond. He faces one count of rape of a child—a Class A felony—and two counts of aggravated sexual battery.

While Tennessee expanded its capital punishment laws through House Bill 1454 to allow the death penalty for child rape, Moore does not face the death penalty because the alleged offenses occurred before the new legislation took effect. However, if convicted on the child rape charge, he faces decades in prison.
