ROANE COUNTY COMMISSION TO MEET TONIGHT

The Roane County commission will meet tonight at 7 PM at the courthouse in Kingston. On the agenda, the commission is expected to approve borrowing some $10 million from the Tennessee Municipal Loan Fund to do road repairs in the county. Some roads are still closed after the February flooding. FEMA is due to reimburse the county, but that may not happen for a year, and repairs must be done to get major roads reopened, including Riggs Chapel and Airport roads. County Executive Ron Woody says they hope to borrow the money so work can begin, because the road-department budget doesn’t have funds available for the major repairs required to get these roads back open.

Another item on the agenda is for commissioners to possibly approve a resolution asking the Roane County attorney to explore legal actions against the current owner or operators of Youth Opportunity Center for Success and Independence, previously called the Roane Academy and Omni Vision Center in the industrial park in Rockwood in the wake of several past escapes by troubled teens housed there, and multiple instances of ambulances and law-enforcement personnel called to the facility. Currently some four dozen boys, ages 11 to 18, live there.
