Six regional volunteer firefighters have been recognized as 2017 Volunteer Firefighters of the Year by the Roane County Commission. In no particular order, those receiving awards were Regina Durham of the West Roane County Division, Jim Thacker with Blair Fire Dept, Capt. Michael Ferrell of the South Fire Dept, Lt. Frances Henderson of East Roane County Division, Robbie Shillings of Midtown, and Capt. Charles R. Hiatt with the Office of Emergency Services Fire Division.
