ROANE COUNTY GRAND JURY INDICTS MELTON ON VEHICULAR HOMICIDE CHARGES

A Morgan County young man has been indicted by a Roane County Grand Jury stemming from a fatal accident last year. Court documents state 19-year-old Holden Jeffrey Melton of Wartburg is charged with two counts of vehicular homicide by recklessness, two counts of vehicular homicide by drag racing and one count each of reckless driving, felony reckless endangerment, failure to maintain control of a vehicle, speeding, and failure to exercise due care. Melton was taken to the Roane County jail yesterday, processed and according to court officials, he was released on a $40,000 bond

The fatal accident took place in May 2019 on Orchard Valley Road near Dyllis Road when Melton of Wartburg lost control of the sedan he was driving on a downhill curve. He vehicle went off the right side of the road and struck a tree. Melton and 16-year-old Kameron French of Harriman were injured. Killed in the crash were 18-year-old Austin French and 16-year-old Joshua Freels.
