ROANE COUNTY LOOKING AT LAND PURCHASE TO SET UP JAIL EXPANSION
The Roane County Commission approved a resolution this week authorizing County Executive Ron Woody to purchase a section of property on North Fourth Street beside the jail. The land acquisition will allow the county to expand the jail and show the Tennessee Department of Corrections that Roane County is serious about eliminating overcrowding. As of yesterday (June 12, 2018), 313 inmates were housed in the Roane County jail. The jail is certified to hold 170 inmates.
