ROANE COUNTY MAN ARRESTED FOR AGGRAVATED ASSAULT AFTER ATTACK OF WOMAN

A Roane County man was arrested for aggravated assault following a disturbance last night (May 18, 2017) in Harriman. Officers responded to Hillside Apartments on Midtown Lane to a report of a male and female screaming. When permission was given for officers to enter the apartment, they found a female victim and 69-year-old Lee Anthony Harkness of Harriman inside the residence. According to the police report, officers asked if there were any weapons on Harkness which he responded he had a pistol in his pocket. The weapon was secured by authorities. Following that, officers observed several abrasions on the victim. The report states the victim told officers Harkness hit her seven times in her head with a closed fist then threw her on a bed and choked her. The victim further stated that Harkness allegedly hit her in the head with a set of keys. The report states that the victim told officers this was not the first physical incident between her and Harkness. Officers observed fresh blood on Harkness’s hands. Authorities also found Harkness’s keys with a large amount of hair matching the color of the victims entangled in the ring of the keys. Harkness was transported to the Roane County jail.
