ROANE COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD TO MEET WEDNESDAY, HOPES TO SELECT NEW DIRECTOR

Wednesday evening, the Roane County School Board will meet in a special called session with the intent of selecting the next Director of Schools for Roane County. Two finalists, Thomas Sisk, the current Director of Schools in Limestone County, Alabama, and Coffee County Director of Schools Ladonna McFall will be interviewed. The board may appoint one as the new director; it also has the option to not select either candidate and instead conduct a new search.

Both candidates are reported as being tainted, according to an article published in the county newspaper. Sisk was labeled as biased by the Alabama NAACP when it came to discipline for white kids versus black students. McFall, on the other hand, was not given very good marks from the teachers’ union in Coffee County where they were not willing to support extension of her contract.

Acting Director Gary Aytes is not interested in staying on as director after he retired several years ago only to return to be interim director until a new permanent director could be selected.

Wednesday’s meeting will be at the Board of Education main office complex at the corner of Highway 70 and Bluff Road in Kingston at 6 p.m. It is open to the public.
