ROANE COUNTY TAX RATE EXPECTED TO BE LOWER
The Roane County Budget Committee has held multiple meetings over the past month and is nearing completion of this year’s budget. Due to a five-year property reappraisal cycle, property values have risen 80-100%, allowing for a lower tax rate.
Most departments have submitted and finalized their budget requests, but the committee awaits the County Board of Education’s budget, expected to be approved in a special session this afternoon and presented to the County Commission in May.
The certified tax rate, currently $2.40 per $100 of assessed value, may drop to around $1.50 to offset increased property values, aiming for revenue neutrality. The County Commission is expected to approve the budget next month.
