The Roane County Sheriff’s Office is taking applications for Sheriff deputies and also the Detention Facility staff. According to the Sheriff’s Office, they would like to add more school resource officers in the future but right now they’re having trouble just keeping deputies on board as they have recently been at least seven to eight short of where they should be as far as keeping Road deputies on board.

Recently the Roane County Commission passed a resolution increasing the pay for sheriff’s deputies in Roane County by 5% for the next two years but keeping a full staff even with that has been tough. The Sheriff’s Department would like to place more deputies at schools due to the recent event in Uvalde Texas, where a man walked into a school and shot and killed 19 students and two administrators. The Sheriff’s Office says that school security is a must and the Board of Education agrees as well . The Sheriff’s Department knows that funding the positions may not be an issue but getting someone to apply is what they’re facing at this time.
