ROANE FIREFIGHTERS RESPOND TO MAPLE STREET HOUSE FIRE
Just after 2:00 p.m. on Monday, a house fire was reported in the 400 block of Maple Street in Harriman. When Harriman Fire Department units arrived on the scene, they observed smoke coming from the eaves of the house and requested mutual aid from the Kingston and Rockwood fire departments. Both occupants and a pet escaped safely, and the fire, which caused damage to the home, was brought under control about an hour after the first units arrived.
Harriman Fire Chief Jon Johnson, who was on the scene, provided a couple of photos from the incident and stated that the Red Cross was contacted to assist the occupants with temporary housing, as the home was not safe to remain in. Harriman Utility also responded to disconnect power to the home. The exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined, according to the chief, who expressed thanks to the Kingston and Rockwood fire departments for their assistance.
