ROANE PROPERTY ASSESSOR SAYS MARKET VALUES ARE UP
During the Roane County Commission meeting in Kingston, Property Assessor Molly Hartup addressed the commissioners regarding property tax reassessments for the reappraisal year. She stated to commissioners that the market values are up in Roane County, which will more than likely increase property assessments for property owners in the county and wanted to give them a heads up in case they begin to get calls from constituents of their property being appraised higher than maybe they think it should be.
She stated that if appraisals are higher, which is likely this re-appraisal year, then the tax rate should be reduced according to law, which should balance out what property owners would owe on their property taxes. The commission also approved going on a four-year reappraisal plan for now, which may also be reduced to a 3-year reappraisal plan in the future.
