ROANE SCHOOL BOARD LIVESTREAM DECISION SPARKS MEDIA SPOTLIGHT AND COMMISSIONER PUSHBACK
The decision by the Roane County School Board to not livestream its meetings has drawn attention beyond the county, including coverage from Knoxville news outlets. As previously reported from the school board meetings, the board chose not to implement livestreaming at this time, citing concerns over the associated costs and potential privacy issues.
County Commissioner Junior Hendrickson has been a leading advocate for livestreaming the meetings. He has now been contacted by—or has reached out to—local media for comments on the matter. Hendrickson has shared his views on WBIR and is scheduled for an interview with WVLT as well. He continues to disagree with the board’s decision, arguing that the cost should not be a barrier. Several individuals have reportedly offered to cover the expenses for the necessary equipment to enable livestreaming.
We will continue to provide updates as this remains a significant story in Roane County.
