ROANE SCHOOL BOARD MOVES FORWARD WITH CONSOLIDATION PLANS

BBBTV12 – During the August 15th meeting at Rockwood High School, the Roane County School Board continued to explore the possibility of consolidating several high schools in the county. The board unanimously approved a motion to engage the Lewis Group architectural firm in assessing the costs of merging Rockwood High, Harriman High, and Roane County High into a single facility.

The plan also includes evaluating the feasibility of relocating Ridgeview Elementary School students to the Rockwood High building, should the consolidation proceed. Additionally, the proposal considers moving Harriman Middle School students into the high school facility and expanding the Midway School.

Although the idea of consolidation has been proposed before, it was previously shelved due to funding challenges from the county commission. As the process moves forward, several work sessions involving county commissioners, the Lewis Group, and school board members are expected.

We will keep you updated as developments unfold in this ongoing discussion.
