ROCKWOOD APARTMENT FIRE POSSIBLY CA– USED BY SMOKING IN BED WITH OXYGEN

A woman was transported to the hospital after a fire Thursday evening in Roane County. Rockwood Firefighters were alerted to a fire in room 318 of the Village Apartments. Chief Matt Crabtree says that the blaze was possibly caused by the victim smoking in bed while using oxygen. He stated that the oxygen line apparently melted catching the mattress on fire. The female, who was not identified, was taken to Roane Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. It was noted in the report that the room’s sprinkler system triggered and put out the fire. However, a room below did receive some water damage. No damage amount was listed.
