ROCKWOOD DEFEATED BY TYNER IN VERY CLOSE GAME

It was a matchup that many knew would be a close game in the 2017 Class 2A TSSAA High School Football semifinals. Tyner would come to Rockwood to take on the Tigers with the winner advancing to the state championship game. After Tyner scored a touchdown and made a field goal in the first half, it appeared that Rockwood would head into the locker room at halftime down by 10. Rockwood had other plans. Tyner set up for a field goal attempt near the end of the first half and was blocked by Rockwood. The Tigers returned the blocked kick for a touchdown. The score was 10 to 7 in favor of Tyner at halftime. Rockwood tied the game at 10 with a successful field goal and the score remained 10-10 at the end of the third quarter. It basically turned into a one-quarter game for the rights to go to the state title game at this point. With just over 4 minutes left in the game, Rockwood was down 16-10. The Tigers got the ball back and attempted to make a drive to score but turned over the ball on downs with 1:23 left in the game. Tyner ran out the clock and won 16-10. Congratulations to the Rockwood Tigers on a great season!

In other area action last night (Friday, November 24, 2017), Alcoa defeated Red Bank 34-0 to advance to the state 3A title game against Covington next week. In Class 6A, Maryville defeated Oakland 31-28. Maryville advances to the state title game next week to play Cane Ridge.
