ROCKWOOD FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDS TO POND GROVE CIRCLE DRIVE STRUCTURE FIRE
The Rockwood Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Pond Grove Circle Drive near Pond Grove Baptist Church on Sunday afternoon. The call came in around 3:30 p.m. Upon arrival, the first unit observed heavy smoke and flames coming from the structure, which was reported to be a storage building beside a residence.
Rockwood Fire Chief Matt Crabtree stated that the property owners, the Minnick family, had gone to the store, returned home, noticed the fire, and called authorities. Firefighters from Rockwood and Harriman braved below-freezing temperatures to bring the fire under control and remained on the scene for about three hours.
The exact cause of the fire remains undetermined at this time, according to the chief, who also expressed thanks to the Harriman Fire Department for sending a truck to assist. Rockwood Street Department employees were called in to spread sand along the roadway, as runoff from the water used to fight the fire was beginning to freeze over.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
Additionally, there was a report of another fire in a home on Cave Creek Road in East Roane County last night, but no further details are available at this time.
