ROCKWOOD MAN ARRESTED FOR DUI, DRUG POSSESSION AFTER CRASHING INTO TREE IN CROSSVILLE
A Rockwood man faces multiple charges after allegedly driving under the influence and crashing his vehicle into a tree along Vandever Road on July 15.
According to a Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office incident report, Deputy Shane Henderson responded to a single-vehicle accident in the 2000 block of Vandever Road. Upon arrival, Deputy Henderson found a white 2010 Nissan Maxima stuck over an embankment, having hit a tree head-on.
The driver, identified as 49-year-old Brian Lee Lance of Rockwood, was the sole occupant of the vehicle. Deputy Henderson noted that Lance exhibited slurred speech and constricted pupils. Lance reported having shoulder pain from the crash and admitted to taking a prescribed 20mg Oxycodone pill a few hours before driving. Due to his injury, field sobriety tests were deferred, and EMS transported Lance to the Cumberland Medical Center.
During a routine inventory check of the vehicle prior to towing, law enforcement uncovered evidence of illicit drug use, including:
-
Several pieces of burnt aluminum foil on the front driver and passenger floors
-
A cut straw
-
Two rolled-up pieces of aluminum foil containing powders suspected to be Fentanyl (weighing approximately 1 gram of white powder and 2 grams of blue and white powder)
Following the vehicle search, Deputy Henderson obtained a search warrant for a blood sample. Two vials of blood were drawn from Lance at Cumberland Medical Center, which, along with the seized substances, have been submitted to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) lab for testing.
Charges and Court Date
Lance was formally arrested and charged with:
-
Driving Under the Influence (DUI) (Statute 55-10-401)
-
Simple Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance (Statute 39-17-418)
Lance’s bond was set at $2,500 for each charge ($5,000 total). He is scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court on August 31, 2026, at 8:30 AM.
