ROCKWOOD POLICE INVESTIGATE SEROUS INCIDENT AT TOM FULLER PARK
BBBTV12 – According to Rockwood Police Department officials, Chief Kell Pittman reported a man is in custody following a troubling event at Tom Fuller Park on Wednesday evening, just after 7 p.m. Witnesses observed a pickup truck veer off Pump House Road and into the park’s parking lot, where two passengers, a woman, and a three-year-old child, exited the vehicle and suffered serious injuries.
Chief Pittman explained that the truck, driven by 38-year-old Adam Lee Black, was traveling south on Pump House Road when it struck a ditch, overcorrected, and crossed both lanes, hitting the park’s sign before continuing toward the water. The passengers exited the truck in the paved parking area, leading to their injuries.
The three-year-old girl was airlifted by Lifestar from Rockwood Sports Complex, while the woman, presumed to be the child’s mother, was transported by ambulance to UT Medical Center in Knoxville. Adam Black was taken into custody and is facing multiple charges, including DUI, aggravated vehicular assault, reckless endangerment, and violations related to child passenger safety and seatbelt laws. He is currently being held on a $100,000 bond.
Chief Pittman stated that the circumstances leading to the passengers’ exit from the truck remain unclear. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities hope to learn more once they can interview the injured woman. Chief Pittman also thanked the THP, the District Attorney’s office, Rockwood Fire, and first responders for their assistance at the scene.
