ROCKWOOD, SPARTA RESIDENTS APPROVE SALE OF WINE IN GROCERY STORES REFERENDUM
During last week’s election, Roane County residents approved the sale of wine in grocery stores. In July of this year, the law went into effect across the state for those grocery stores that had prepared for local referendums that had passed previously to begin selling the alcoholic beverage. Both Harriman and Kingston had passed such laws. The City of Sparta also passed the law on Nov. 8th. In the same election, the City of Oliver Springs passed a liquor-by-the-drink law as a precursor to the sale of wine in groceries referendum.
