ROCKWOOD UTILITY TO CONSIDER SALE OF FORMER OFFICE FACILITY

BBBTV12 – ROCKWOOD, Tenn. — The Rockwood Water, Wastewater, and Gas Systems Board will hold a special called meeting on Thursday, July 31 at 10:00 a.m. to review proposals for the purchase of their former office and garage facility on Church Avenue.

The property, which has been vacant since the utility department relocated to a new facility on South Front Street, includes two garage-style buildings, additional storage space, and sits on approximately two acres of land. Coldwell Banker and Associates has been contracted as the real estate agency handling the sale. The asking price is listed at approximately $475,000.

The potential sale comes as the utility continues efforts to address financial shortfalls. At Monday night’s Rockwood City Council meeting, General Manager Kim Ramsey and several board members appeared to request a water and sewer rate increase, which the council approved unanimously. Ramsey noted the utility has experienced approximately $850,000 in losses over the past several years due to the gap between revenues and expenses.

Proceeds from the sale of the Church Avenue property are expected to help reduce that financial strain.

The board may make a decision on accepting an offer during Thursday morning’s meeting.
