SCARLETT NABBED ON ASSAULT, MULTIPLE DRUG CHARGES, OUTSTANDING WARRANTS

Wednesday morning, Cumberland County deputies went to Smith Mountain Road to follow up on a trespassing complaint. There they found 38-year-old Joshua McDaniel Scarlett of Rockwood. Scarlett pulled out a wallet with a Tennessee ID card belonging to another man. The officers were familiar with the man whose ID Scarlett presented and told him to tell them his actual name… which he still did not do. A search of his person revealed Alprazolam and oxycodone, as well as a small container of marijuana, along with 25.51 grams of meth.

A standard check of the license tag revealed it was stolen from Crossville.

Scarlett was placed into the back of the patrol car, but would not put his feet inside, even after being asked multiple times to do so. Instead, he began to kick the door of the vehicle and one of the deputies. The deputy reported dry stunning the suspect had little effect. At one point, the suspect hit his head either on the corner of the Taser or on the car and began to bleed copiously. Scarlett was taken to Roane Medical Center for treatment. He was later found to have active warrants in Cumberland, Roane and Sullivan counties. Deputies retrieved Scarlett from Roane Medical Center and, on the way to intake, Scarlett rubbed his staples against the back cage, causing them to bleed again. Jail nursing staff evaluated him at intake. Roane and Sullivan counties placed holds on him. According to the arrest report, “Joshua made the statement to me that if I had not cuffed him when I did that he would have made me have to kill him.”

Scarlett was charged with manufacture, delivery, sale or possession of meth, manufacture, sale, delivery or possession of a controlled substance, assault, criminal impersonation, theft of property and two counts of simple possession, as well as warrants for manufacture, sale, delivery or possession of meth, manufacture, sale or delivery of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest and evading arrest. He was placed under $52,500 bond and is due in court April 1.
