SEVERAL DOGS KILLED IN TRUCK FIRE ALONG I-40 TUESDAY

No humans were injured but several dogs were killed in a truck fire in Cumberland County Tuesday afternoon. Cumberland County Assistant Fire Chief John Hall told 1057 News that six units were called to a shoulder along I-40 westbound at mile marker 334. Upon their arrival, firefighters found the cab fully engulfed and the fire extending onto the trailer. It was unknown what the truck was carrying but Assistant Chief Hall said that 20 Pomeranian dogs had been transported in the cab area. Unfortunately, only a few of the animals reportedly survived. The blaze also caused a wildfire to spread onto 10 acres adjacent to the scene. Units were on the scene for approximately four hours.
