SEVERE STORMS AND HEAVY RAINFALL CREATES PROBLEMS FOR AREA
Severe storms and several inches of rain resulted in storm damage, flooded roads and accidents all across the coverage area last night and crews are still dealing with the aftermath at this hour. Overton County crews last night rescued a man after his vehicle became trapped in floodwaters southwest of Livingston. In Cumberland County, deputies responded to the 5100 block of Highway 70 East after a tree and power lines came down on a vehicle trapping the driver. After power was shut down, the driver was freed. Around 4 a.m this morning, a tractor-trailer overturned at the 335 westbound mile marker of I-40 in heavy rainfall. Westbound traffic is backed up as of 5 a.m. this morning. The flooding rains combined with the flu caused the following school systems to close today: Anderson, Bledsoe, Bradley, Fentress, Loudon, Meigs, Monroe, Morgan, Overton, Pickett, Putnam, Rhea, Roane, and White. All Roane State Community College locations in the coverage area are closed today as well.
TRAVEL ADVISORY – If you do not have to travel today (Thursday, Feb. 6, 2020), don’t! There are so many reports of roads flooded and bridges closed, please wait until at least after 9 a.m. that way it will be light outside and you can see if you are coming up on a flooded road.
