Severe weather pounded the listening area last night with hail, frequent lightning, high winds and heavy rainfall. All of Tennessee and Kentucky was under a tornado watch last night into early this morning as storms developed in northern Kentucky and tracked south-southeast. Cumberland County saw multiple tornado warnings spanning close to 90 minutes. One tornadic cell maintained its circulation as it tracked from Putnam County southeast through western and southern Cumberland County into northern Rhea County. Preliminary reports indicate no tornado touchdowns.

Wind damage was reported in numerous counties in the area, including Cumberland, Rhea, Roane, Fentress, Clay, Overton and Pickett. In Cumberland County, several trees on Vandever Road were blown down by winds. One home was reported damaged in Spring City.

Quarter-sized hail fell on areas of Clay, Pickett and Overton counties. Golf ball-sized hail was reported in White County. Hail was also reported in Cumberland, Rhea and Roane counties.

According to the National Weather Service, more than two inches of rain fell from the main storm system that hit last night. Additional rainfall came from other storms that went through the area before sunrise this morning.
