SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FOR RHEA, MEIGS, BLEDSOE
The National Weather Service in Morristown, Tennessee, has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Rhea County, north-central Meigs County, and northeastern Bledsoe County in eastern Tennessee until 7:15 p.m. EDT (6:15 p.m. CDT). At 6:22 p.m. EDT, radar indicated a severe thunderstorm located near Pikeville and moving east at 45 mph. The storm is capable of producing wind gusts up to 60 mph, which could cause damage to roofs, siding, and trees.
Communities that could be impacted include Pikeville, Spring City, Evensville, Peakland, Grandview, Melvine, Mount Crest, and Fall Creek Falls State Park, along with Stinging Fork Falls State Park and Piney Falls State Park. Forecasters also warn that a tornado is possible, as tornadoes can develop quickly within severe thunderstorms. Residents in the warned area are urged to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building and remain alert for rapidly changing weather conditions.
