SHELBYVILLE AREA REPORTS EARTHQUAKE TUESDAY NIGHT
An earthquake shook an area near Shelbyville Tuesday night. The U.S. Geological Survey reports that the quake hit 13 km east of Shelbyville around 8:30 p.m. It was a 2.8 magnitude with a depth of 7.4 km. Several people reported that they felt the quake, however, no reports of damage have been made yet. This comes a little over a month after a 4.4 magnitude earthquake in Decatur. According to the National Weather Service office in Morristown, the largest earthquake on record in East Tennessee was a magnitude 4.7 near Marysville in 1973.
