SHORT AND BELTZ ARRESTED ON DRUG CHARGES IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY

A Cumberland County deputy conducted a traffic stop Saturday on the 5500th block of Highway 127. A check revealed the female driver did not have a valid license. A consent search of the vehicle reportedly resulted in a plastic bag containing a drug found.

The arrest report states that 29-year-old Kristopher Dale Short of Sparta, a passenger, claimed the meth and a glass pipe with residue in it.

Short was arrested for the manufacture, sale, delivery, or possession of meth and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was taken to the Cumberland County jail and initially placed under a $14,500 bond.

In a different case Saturday, deputies responded to a stranded motorist on Interstate 40 at the 324-mile marker. Officers suspected 36-year-old Hunter Loren Beltz of Newark, Tennessee hit a guardrail with a rental car he was operating.

The arrest report states deputies smelled a strong odor of alcohol and marijuana coming from Beltz. A consent search allegedly revealed drugs and a firearm.

Beltz was charged with DUI, possession of a handgun while under the influence, possession of drug paraphernalia, and two counts of simple possession of drugs.

He was taken to the Cumberland County jail and placed under bonds totaling $54,000.
