Cumberland County deputies responded this week to a home on North Sycamore Lane in Pleasant Hill to a report of a shot fired.

While en route, officers were notified that 30-year-old Patrick Michael Picard of Pleasant Hill discharged a firearm because 27-year-old Lexus Brooke Picard allegedly came at him with a knife.

Deputies arrived on the scene. Patrick showed them a video of Lexus holding a gun in her left hand. The arrest report states she slapped Patrick’s phone out of his hand, telling him to put the phone down to stop recording the incident.

Patrick told the officer he grabbed the hand Lexus had the gun in, and she kept pulling away. Both of their hands struck a fence, resulting in the gun discharging. Patrick told the deputy the gun fell, and he picked it up.

According to his account of the incident, Lexus then came at him with a knife.

He reportedly fired the gun to get her to stop. The bullet hit the back passenger side tire with their two children in the back seat, ages six years and six months old.

Deputies located a .380 Bodyguard handgun on a window sill at the residence. A family member took the gun away from the couple and unloaded it.

A black Remington knife, believed to be used by Lexus, was seized by law enforcement.

Jail officials say Patrick Picard was charged with two counts of reckless endangerment. He was placed under bonds totaling $60,000. Lexus Picard faces two counts of reckless endangerment and a single count of aggravated assault. She was placed under bonds totaling $55,000.

Both were released from jail after posting bond.

They are scheduled make their first appearance on the charges in Cumberland County General Sessions Court on March 11, 2024.

The Department of Children’s Services was notified of the incident. The report states relatives of the children picked them up at the scene.
