SHOULD THE CITY OF CROSSVILLE BUY THE VILLAGE INN?

The Village Inn, formerly the Capri Motel was once one of the finest motor lodges in Middle Tennessee.  The motor court was a popular stopping place for people traveling along US Highway 70 between Knoxville and Nashville and traveling north and south along US 68.

Sitting in the shadow of the four-story Crossville City Hall, the Village Inn is now merely a shell of its once great self.  Despite the best efforts of its owner and management, the units are now often the center of illegal drug activities, crime scenes and frequent police visits to handle problems with its guests and their visitors.

The owner, a well-respected long-time  Crossville Physician and businessman, Dr. Robert “Buck” Wood, has now approached the city council with an opportunity for Crossville to buy the property for $450,000.  The last county tax appraisal, conducted earlier this year valued the property at $200,000 and the buildings and improvements at $391,700 for a total appraised value of $591,700.

The council will consider Dr. Woods’ offer in a work session this Tuesday at 5 PM in the Crossville City Hall.

The Council is also expected to discuss some of the possibilities for the Village Inn property if the purchase was made.
