“SMOKY MOUNTAIN RISE” BENEFIT RAISES MILLIONS

Last night’s telethon, Smoky Mountains Rise: A Benefit for My People was a huge success and raised millions of dollars for the special fund set up by the Dollywood Foundation to assist in the needs of those families who suffered after the Sevier County wildfires. Entertainers such as Hank Williams Jr. to Cyndi Lauper, came from everywhere to give time and many donations for the cause. Of course, Dolly herself entertained and later stated that the donations “would make a world of difference for so many who lost everything.” During a press conference Tuesday, officials said that 14 people have died and 191 were injured by wildfires with over 2400 structures damaged or destroyed. The mayor of Gatlinburg said that the city is facing over $500 million in damages. The two juveniles who have been charged with setting the wildfires are awaiting their first court date in the Sevier County Juvenile Detention Center. Both have been charged with aggravated arson with a possibility of other charges pending.
