SOME CITIZENS OF ROANE COUNTY WANT REFERENDUM REGARDING SCHOOL BUILDING PROJECT
Many residents of Roane County are asking for a referendum on the board of education’s $68 million school building plan. It calls for the closing of Roane County High, Harriman High and Rockwood High School and build a super high school near Roane State’s campus in Harriman. The plan also calls for moving Oliver Springs High to Oliver Springs Middle, Ridge View Elementary to Rockwood High and Harriman Middle to Harriman High School once the super high school is operational. The funding would come from the county and preliminary estimates indicate a property tax increase of 36 to 38 cents per $100 value to fund the project.
