SOMEONE IMPERSONATING A DISTRIBUTOR SCAMS LOCAL GAS STATION OUT OF $1,300
On November 13, a male working at Weigel’s off Peavine Road received a call from who he believed was a cigarette distributor. The person on the phone identified themselves as EB Brown Distributors and stated that they had shorted the store 11 cartons of cigarettes. They also stated that in order for them to correct the mistake, the employee needed to issue a refund of $1,333.29 back to them by using a credit card that they provided. The employee did what he was told and completed the refund. The person on the phone asked the employee to send them a picture of the receipt so that they could use it for bookkeeping.
After the employee did what was asked, he called his manager who informed him that it was not a distributor and that this was a scam call.
