SOUND LEVEL CHECK CONDUCTED AT LOCATION OF PROPOSED SHOOTING SPORTS PARK

Events which took place over the weekend involving the proposed Crossville Shooting Sports Park will be on the Agenda at a city council work session this week. The park has been a matter surrounded by controversy for the past few weeks as residents and property owners in the area have raised concerns about noise and the location of the park disturbing their “quality of Life.” Saturday, several city police officers, along with Chief David Beatty, City Mayor James Mayberry, city officials and residents of the area, met on Albert Frye Rd. to conduct a sound level check on various types of firearms. Shooters were assigned positions relative to where the park’s shooting rows would be located, with the decibel level reader positioned some 600 yards away on a neighboring back porch. Rounds from shotguns, .22 and .40 caliber handguns and 223 AR Swat guns were all fired off with the highest db reading of 73 coming from the shotguns. A comparable reading of 75 db would be that of a commode flushing. These findings and other data will be reviewed, along with other items, at the work session which starts at 5 PM Tuesday, April 4 at the third floor meeting room at City Hall.
