SOUTH CAROLINA MAN ARRESTED FOR CRIMINAL IMPERSONATION

Saturday night, Crossville city police were called to Walmart for a report of a man panhandling out front. Upon being detained, the suspect gave a false name, date of birth and Social Security number. He denied having anything in his possession to prove his identity.

Unable to confirm his identity, police ultimately released him, but noted in their report he “stayed in the general vicinity.”

A short time afterward, police used Facebook to confirm the identity of 32-year-old Ryan Michael Gillian of North Augusta, South Carolina, linking his identity to individuals he was with upon the initial contact.

Police again encountered Gillian, this time near Burke’s Outlet, where he “continued to deny being Ryan Gillian for a short time.”

Upon his arrest, Gillian later stated he’d attempted to conceal his true identity because he had outstanding warrants.

The warrants – from Colorado and South Carolina – were confirmed, but neither state wanted to extradite.

Gillian was charged with criminal impersonation for using a false identity to elude arrest and extradition.
