SOUZA SUBMITS ETHICS VIOLATIONS CHARGES WHILE SIGNS ARE STOLEN FROM MOCKINGBIRD DR. HOME

The next shot has been fired in the continuing saga of Crossville politics as City Attorney William Ridley released 13 ethics violations Friday afternoon that have been submitted by Council Member Pete Souza. Souza made the statement that he would present the charges at last month’s city council monthly meeting. The list of violations were submitted to Ridley, who stands as the council’s Ethics Officer, according to the City Charter. Ridley was to look over the ethics charges, that are mostly against Council Member Jesse Kerley and interim City Manager Steve Hill, so that they would then be submitted to the Municipal Technical Advisory Service, and then on to the state. Another incident which happened Friday is being investigated by Police involving the theft of several signs that have been posted for some time in the front yard of a Mockingbird Drive Home owned by JR Blankenship. The homemade signs said derogatory remarks about Council Member Kerley. A security camera has footage of a man getting out of a truck, placing the signs in the truck bed, and then leaving the scene. Much of the feud between Kerley and Blankenship stems from a fine which Blankenship incurred after posting unsigned leaflets in the city concerning alleged crooked politics. That incident and another incident where Kerley is accused of assaulting Souza plays into the ethics charges. Kerley is set to appear in General Sessions Court for the assault charge on Thursday.
