STATE SENATE PASSES BILL CLEARING THE WAY FOR A MONUMENT TO THE UNBORN

The Tennessee Senate has passed a bill calling for a monument to unborn children to be placed on the grounds of the state Capitol in Nashville. The 23-3 vote Monday sends the legislation back to the House, which passed the bill by a 63-15 margin last week. Lawmakers must agree on an amendment to send the legislation to Republican Gov. Bill Haslam for his signature. The bill was sponsored by Representative Jerry Sexton, a Bean Station Republican, and Senator Steve Southerland, a Morristown Republican. The proposal allows for private funds to be raised for a monument memorializing victims of abortion. The monument would be called the Tennessee Monument to Unborn Children, In Memory of the Victims of Abortion: Babies, Women and Men.
