STATE SUBCOMMITTEE GIVES APPROVAL TO PROCEED WITH VETERANS CEMETERY IN CUMBERLAND CO.

The Tennessee State Building Commission’s Executive Subcommittee has given permission to move forward with acquiring property in Cumberland County for an Upper Cumberland State Veterans Cemetery. The plans call for the 90-acre cemetery to be located near the Genesis Road Exit on I-40.

Rachel Fogg, Public Information Officer for the Tennessee Department of Veterans Services spoke with 105.7 News this afternoon about the proposed cemetery

“We do have plans now to move forward with the project for Cumberland County. There is also additional money for the design process of the cemetery,” said Fogg.

State lawmakers appropriated $600,000 for purchasing the land in 2018. In addition, the Upper Cumberland State Veterans Cemetery Association raised $200,000 for the land acquisition.

The closing on the property could take as long as 120 days. A new update could come in February when the Upper Cumberland State Veterans Cemetery Association is scheduled to meet.
