STOKES CHARGED WITH AGGRAVATED BURGLARY

Cumberland County deputies responded Monday to a burglary in progress at a home on the 3,000 block of Highway 127 South. Officers came upon and stopped a vehicle operated by the alleged suspect, 50-year-old Johnny Earl Stokes of Crossville, leaving the scene. The report states Stokes admitted to entering the dwelling. Authorities say a search of his vehicle revealed three catalytic converters that had been cut off of automobiles. A truck parked at the residence had the exhaust pipe cut. Stokes was arrested for aggravated burglary, theft of property, vandalism, and criminal trespassing. He was processed into the jail and initially placed on a total bond of $14,500.
