STONE MEMORIAL HIGH SCHOOL HOLDS MOCK DUI DRILL

Students at Stone Memorial High School in Crossville this morning got to see a mock DUI accident drill involving some of their very own. The drill simulated the dangers of drinking and driving during prom or any other day.

In the mock simulation drill, a truck collided head on with a van carrying students in front of the high school. At least one fatality was simulated. The Crossville Police Department, Crossville Fire Department, Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department, Cumberland County medical first responders all arrived at the scene to simulate what they do in an actual vehicle accident of this nature.

Students got to see one driver arrested for DUI that could have led to additional charges including vehicular homicide. LifeForce was scheduled to take part in the simulation but was called off because of rainfall that was in the area at the time of the event.

Cumberland County Sheriff Casey Cox, who was on the scene of the mock crash, told 105.7 News that it is very important to hold the drill each year. “This is the 17th year we have held the mock DUI crash drill in the county. It has been well received by the high school students. Thank goodness we have not had any real incidents simular to this since this program was started,” said Cox. “The drill shows students that a bad decision such as drinking and driving can not only affect their own life but the lives of many others.”

The event was sponsored by the TAD Center in Crossville and the Victims Impact Panel of Tennessee. The two groups sponsored a simular event at Cumberland County High School last week.

The following pictures are from the mock drill today. We stress that this is not an actual accident scene and this was a staged mock drill:

The Tad Center/Victims Impact Panel of Tennessee sponsored all of the mock DUI drill activities. All participating students were encouraged to sign a pledge sheet to not drink and drive on prom night this weekend. Each of the students who signed were then entered into a $75 prize drawing.
