STORM CLEANUP PROGRESSING IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY

Progress is being made with the storm-cleanup process in Cumberland County. Saturday night’s round of blistering wind and rain damage knocked down countless trees, limbs and power lines throughout the area, with Lake Tansi feeling the brunt of damage. 15,000 residents lost power during the storms. VEC began working to restore lines almost immediately. Bobby Randolph told 1057 News Sunday that crews from across the state were being called in to help with the work. He says that, as of Tuesday (May 30) morning, less than 40 people are still without power and he hopes to get them back online as quickly as possible. Many of the problems resulted when toppling trees got tangled in downed power lines which made for some dangerous and tricky situations. Randolph says if you are still without power to phone VEC at 931-484-3527 and follow the phone prompts to report your problem. Robin Young Griffin with the county Road Dept. says that all of the roadways in Lake Tansi are now cleared of trees but the final cleanup will take months. Road Dept. personnel, along with fire, rescue squad and volunteers have been at work with chainsaws for the entire weekend. If you have or know of any road problems that have not been addressed, call the Road Dept. at 931-484-5424.
