SUBMERGED TRUCK PULLED FROM NEAR CANEY CREEK MARINA WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON

Investigators with the Roane County Sheriff’s Department will continue looking into the mysterious discovery and retrieval of a Ford Ranger pickup truck from the waters around Caney Creek Marina Wednesday afternoon.

Late Tuesday night, rescue squad units were sent to the area after a fisherman using a depth finder noticed something resembling a vehicle beneath the surface, and called authorities. The rescue squad and TWRA officers went out and decided to wait until daylight Wednesday to begin retrieval.

The truck was pulled from the water around 2 p.m. Wednesday. Sheriff Jack Stockton said there was no body (or remains) inside the vehicle, nor much in the way of identifying items; but their investigation will continue  He also said the vehicle had sustained damage to its roof as if it had rolled over. It’s unknown how long the vehicle may have been in the water, but Stockton said it may have been several years.

The Roane County Sheriff’s Office says this is an open case. They suspect it may have been a case of insurance fraud; the only thing they say they’ve ruled out is foul play.

If you have lost a Ford Ranger pickup or believe your truck may have been stolen in the past, please contact the Roane County Sheriff’s Department at (865) 376-5582.
