SUSPECT SHOT AFTER ATTEMPTS TO BURN ESTRANGED WIFE’S HOME

More information has been released on the officer-involved shooting which took place in Morristown Tuesday night. The TBI says that 52-year-old Lanny Carroll is charged with attempted aggravated burglary, attempted aggravated arson and possession of a firearm by a felon after he tried to break into a home where his estranged wife lived. Officer found where Carroll had tried to enter the rear window of the home located on Dedra Street around 10 AM. After he failed at the attempt, he allegedly tried to set the home on fire, threatening to burn both his wife and her bedridden father up. Carroll was ordered to show his hands by officers. However when they tried to handcuff him, Carroll took out a gun, pointing it. An officer pulled out his 9mm service weapon and fired, striking Carroll once in the chest. Carroll was transported to UT Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The officer was not injured. He has placed on Administrative Leave in the light of the investigation. Carroll, who has a history with local authorities, is in the middle of divorce proceedings with his wife. The TBI will contact the attorney general’s office with their findings.
