SUSPECT WANTED IN MORGAN COUNTY APPREHENDED IN HARRIMAN

A Coalfield man was taken into custody and charged with evading arrest after an incident in Harriman Friday. Deputies were dispatched to the area of Old Quarry lane and Harriman Highway for an intoxicated male with a vehicle stuck in the mud. A maroon colored Saturn was found along the roadway with three occupants. On their approach, officers watched as the driver, 31-year-old Travis Leroy Butler, fled the vehicle on foot. Butler failed to stop for authorities and a taser failed to make contact with him. He was finally apprehended and told officers that he ran because he “had warrants.” Butler was found to have two outstanding warrants in Morgan County. Although several plastic baggies associated with the sale of illegal narcotics were found in and around the vehicle, no illegal substances were found. One of the other occupants, Ashley Phillips was found to have an active warrant in Roane County. She was also taken into custody.
