SUSPECT’S ATTEMPTS TO EVADE POLICE IN KINGSTON FAIL
An Oak Ridge man was arrested Thursday in Kingston after he tried to evade police. Officers observed a dark-colored vehicle pull out in front of a truck at the intersection of Race and Third St. When police tried to stop the driver, later identified as 39-year-old Carl Richard Mathews, he turned onto North Kentucky at a high rate of speed. The pursuit continued at speeds of 65 mph or more through a school zone on Cumberland St. and then onto Highway 70 West. The chase continued on until Mathews stopped the vehicle at 819 Patton Ferry Rd, where he exited the vehicle on foot and failed to comply with officer’s calls to stop. Mathews was finally caught behind a house on Valley Rd. A male and female were also in the vehicle with Mathews who faces numerous charges including evading arrest.
