SWAN POND RD ACCIDENT RESULTS IN DUI CHARGE

A man is set to go to jail after his hospital stay as the result of a crash in Roane County Monday afternoon. Deputies say that a Mack truck traveling south on Swan Pond Road, driven by 39-year-old Mitchell Armes of Lancing, TN, swerved to avoid being struck by an oncoming car driven by 56-year-old Gene J. Turpin of Rockwood. Turpin’s vehicle clipped the front of the dump truck twice causing the truck to hit a ditch line and partially overturn at the Hassler Turn intersection. Turpin was transported to the hospital and will be charged with DUI, driving on a revoked license, not wearing a seatbelt and having no insurance. The truck driver was not injured. The accident resulted in the closure of the roadway for two hours
