TDOT ANNOUNCES WEEKLY UPDATES OF ROAD PROJECTS IN LISTENING AREA

In Cumberland County, work on Peavine Road – between Firetower Road and Westchester/Catoosa Boulevard – is progressing as expected. Grade work is continuing; periodic lane closures and traffic stoppages may be required to support this activity. Motorists should be alert for shifts in traffic patterns, as well as construction workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway. The estimated completion time is November 2020.

On Interstate 40, in the vicinity of mile marker 326, construction of a truck climbing lane is nearing completion. The climbing lane and right shoulder have been opened to traffic, with residual work expected to be finished by the end of the month. Motorists are advised to use caution in this area, as workers may still be on site, with state trooper support.

Motorists along Interstate 40 eastbound in Cumberland and Putnam counties should be aware of the following nighttime activity: milling and paving from mile marker 301 to mile marker 307. Work will be performed Sunday through Thursday nights from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. and will require temporary lane closures, with state trooper support. This highway-resurfacing project is slated for completion by the end of August.

Catch-basin retrofitting along State Route 29 in Rhea County will require daytime weekday shoulder closures – from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday – along a 2.4-mile stretch (LM 2.50 to LM 4.90). Motorists should also be aware of pavement-resurfacing work along two miles of State Route 30 in Bledsoe County from east of Porch Rock Road to the Rhea County line (LM 16.43 to LM 18.43). The project will involve one lane of traffic under the control of flaggers and a pilot car. The estimated completion date for these projects is September 2018.

Along State Route 28 in Fentress County, construction of an acceleration lane at LM21 and safety improvements from near the Jamestown city limits to the Pickett County line will continue until October 2018.

TDOT also advises motorists in Region 2 (which includes Bledsoe, Bradley, Cannon, Clay, Coffee, Cumberland, DeKalb, Fentress, Franklin, Grundy, Hamilton, Jackson, Marion, McMinn, Meigs, Overton, Pickett, Polk, Putnam, Rhea, Sequatchie, Van Buren, Warren and White counties) about random on-call pavement marking and retracing of pavement markings along various Interstate and State routes. Contractors will be retracing existing striping in Fentress, Overton and Pickett counties at night. This will require temporary lane closures along the following roads. In Fentress County:  State Route 28 (U.S. Highway 127). In Pickett County: State Route 111. In Overton County: State Route 52. Mobile lane closures should be expected and motorists are advised to be alert for construction workers and equipment, and are reminded to obey all construction signage and messages. The estimated project completion date is June 2019.

Motorists are encouraged to use caution and obey reduced speed limits in all TDOT work zones, regardless of lane closure activity.
