TDOT CREWS: COULD TAKE WEEKS FOR SECTION OF HIGHWAY 68 TO BE DRIVEABLE

TDOT crews at the scene of a road collapse on Highway 68 between Grandview and Spring City in Rhea County say it could take weeks to get the road driveable again. The highway was closed in both directions yesterday after a section of the road slid down the mountain. The collapse was caused by recent rainfall; more rain is expected tomorrow. Rhea County Sheriff Mike Neal would like the Grandview community to know they will have a deputy stationed on the mountain for calls 24 hours a day until the roadway is reopened to emergency-vehicle traffic. Motorists who use Highway 68 to get from Crossville to Spring City are asked to use Highway 27 and Interstate 40 as a detour route.
