TEEN ACC– USED OF SHOOTING AND KILLING SOLDIER WILL UNDERGO MENTAL EVALUATION
According to the Knoxville News-Sentinel, the 15-year-old accused of the shooting death of a U.S. Army soldier at a Byrd St. home in Harriman, will undergo a mental evaluation. Court records indicate that Jacob Kinney got involved in a domestic situation between his sister Amber and her boyfriend, 24-year-old Marstratton Gordon, who was between deployments. The petition goes onto to say that the teen was able to obtain a .357 revolver, entered a hallway between his sister’s room and shot Gordon once in the left cheek, with the bullet entering his head causing instantaneous death. Police records do not indicate if anyone else sustained any injuries during the altercation. An autopsy on Gordon’s body has not been released. At the time of the slaying, Jacob Kinney was in his mother’s custody. Records show that the boy has been ordered into the custody of the state Department of Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities State authorities also must ascertain a care and treatment program if the teen is deemed mentally ill and the resources available if treatment is required, according to the court’s order.
